“It was one of the saddest days of my life when I had to take Jet Set Sheik to Rood & Riddle [Equine Hospital] to be laid to rest. They were so good about letting me stay with him for a while to say my goodbyes to the ‘little man.’ I have so many wonderful memories with this guy; he wasn’t just a horse to me, he was my friend and family.”

The 2016 Southern Ohio Quarter Horse Association Challenge show took place over the weekend in Wilmington, Ohio and recorded HUGE class sizes, due in part to the whopping $10,000 in scholarship money set to be awarded to youth competitors. Karen Orman of Des Moines, Iowa, and Dalts Superman Design earned the High-Point PBRIP title, in addition to topping the PBRIP 2D and 3D standings. Karen and “Doodle” earned 77 points to clinch the titles—including 34 points in the 2D and 36 points in 3D events; for their efforts, they take home two Elite saddles, a trophy breast collar, Gist championship buckle and APHA year-end money.

To be eligible for the high-point awards, exhibitors had to earn at least 1 point in each of APHA’s four ranch horse events: ranch trail, ranch pleasure, ranch reining and ranch cow work. Open points were based on the horse, while Amateur, Novice Amateur and Youth points were based on each horse-and rider-combination. Each high-point award winner will be awarded a ranch horse trophy saddle provided by Elite Custom Saddles.
