Hundreds of Youth Get Head Start on College, Thanks to AjPHA Youth World Show

This year, the Youth World Show offered over $140,000 in scholarship prizes to AjPHA members competing at the show. Included were scholarships for top finishers in 83 world championship performance and halter classes, along with scholarships for randomly selected entries and other special events. All this in addition to the customary prizes awarded at the show, such as trophy buckles and saddles. Scholarship money was provided by the American Paint Horse Foundation, as well as private donations from APHA members and industry supporters.

Sabine Lazo was moved to tears when she was announced as the recipient of the Robyn Hanna Sportsmanship Award on July 5 at the 2017 AjPHA Youth World Championship Show. An anonymous panel selected Sabine, who is from Caldwell, Texas, for the award based on her outstanding display of sportsmanship throughout the World Show. She received a $1,000 scholarship and a custom Gist Silversmiths trophy buckle.

“After the announcement, several AQHA professional horsemen, trainers and exhibitors voiced their concerns about adding a solid gate to the Adequan® Select World, due to many of the 50-and-over exhibitors not being prepared to manage a solid gate,” said Pete Kyle, AQHA chief show officer. “We’ve listened to the feedback of our members and have decided to use the rope gate at the Adequan Select World in 2017; however the solid gate will still be used at the 2017 Lucas Oil World.”
