Some weeks are tougher than others, and the past two weeks have proved to be very tragic for the horse industry. Within a span of the last 14 days, we have lost numerous friends, mentors, great horsemen, mothers, daughters, fathers, and husbands.
Every life has its season, but during this time of the year tragedies like this hit far too close to home. Last week, we learned of the passing of great horseman, trainer, and judge Jack Brizendine following his nearly three-year-long battle with cancer. Then, just a few days later, Bushy Park Farm Ranch Manager Daryl Lankin passed due to an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Then, the beloved mother of AQHA youth competitor Natasha Blanchard, Darla Blanchard, passed over the weekend following a long and difficult diagnosis with cancer. Shortly after, AQHA Hall of Fame member, longtime breeder, and judge Suzanne Norton Jones passed on December 5th at the age of 91.
Finally, we were saddened to hear the news that horse trainer Lise von Uhlit suffered a heart attack on Sunday and was placed in an induced coma. Sadly, she has since passed away as well.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone mourning the loss of these members of the horse show community. During this time of year, may we never take for granted the many blessings in our lives and the precious time we are able to spend with family, whether blood-relative or chosen.
