A series of three impressive Performance Halter classes took place this afternoon at the 2017 AQHA World Championship Show. First up, Gene Parker led Most Appealing Dream to win her fifth Open World Championship in a row in Performance Halter Mares. The 7-year-old mare, by A Dream Remembered and out of Lil Bit Impulsive, started her winning streak back in 2013 and has continued ever since, winning at the hands of professional horsemen like Luke Castle, Ross Roark, and today, Gene Parker.
In order to compete here at the World Show, this pretty mare achieved her performance points in Western Riding. “She actually qualified for Western Riding here at the World Show!” says owner, Andrea Alderson. “We finally got the Western Riding finessed out, so she has about 25 Western Riding points, which Beckey Schooler helped with.”
“She’s really finding her own, so I think next year we will really focus on that. This year, she got her AQHA Championship, so I think next year we’d like to get her Amateur Championship as well.”
Also in the future is a handful of babies for the Alderson family. “She has two babies right now: a weanling and yearling by Winnies Willy. Then, she has three coming in 2018, two Lopin Machines and a Lazy Loper. They both have her back, her good disposition, and her cute, little butt.”
The Reserve Champion in the class was Luke Castle with She’s Showin Off. Third was Tim Finkenbinder with A Voodoo Doll. Fourth was Judd Paul with Onlythebestchocolate. Fifth was Ted Turner with Still A Kid.
Next up, Ted Turner led Mytesly to win his ninth World Championship title and his third in a row in the open division of Performance Halter Geldings.
“Sly” is not only a Champion earning Halter horse, he’s also a Barrel Racer! “He got 15 points in Barrel Racing this year,” says owner, Travis Dobbs. “My daughter, Dylan, is pushing to show him next year. After this show, when he comes off his routine, and we draw him down, we will go run some barrels. He really is fast! He loves it. He pins his ears and runs. He’s entered here in Barrel Racing, but we’re not sure if he will be shown or not. I may need to work on finding a jockey!”
Sly is by My Te Cool Mister and out of Last Pleazin Bymr, so he has no Barrel Racing lineage, per say; however, it’s an event he’s always shown a natural aptitude for, as well as his trademark class of Halter. “He’s won the Congress three years in a row, the Open and Amateur three years in a row, the Select two years in a row, and the Youth two years in a row. My wife, Johnna, shows him in amateur on Monday.”
The Reserve Champion was Ross Roark with Tees Coolest. Third was Jason Smith with Be Elusive. Fourth was Tim Finkebinder with Lu Johnny. Fifth was Brent Maxwell with Always The Best Man.
Finally, Performance Halter Stallions was won by Todd Grant with Inspirado. The Reserve Champion was Jason Smith with The Born Legacy. Third was Luke Castle with Kidz Love To Streak. Fourth was Tom Robertson with Like A Boss. Fifth was Ross Roark with Tribute Scores.
