Three Nails Ranch & Intensions

by: Brittany Bevis

TNR_entranceAmidst the rocky hills of Eastland County hidden within a deep cover of mesquite and Texas live oak sits a 3,200-acre trophy deer hunting and equine breeding facility known as Three Nails Ranch. In addition to supplying some of the highest quality whitetail deer on the market, owners Billy and Suzonne Franks have gathered a selection of superb stallions to complement the equine portion of their operation.

After some time spent out of the horse industry, the Franks have jumped back in full force, with the guidance of trainer Jarrell Jackson. Now, the Franks have partnered with Steve and Kelli Jensen on AQHA stallions Kid Coolsified, AQHA Leading Sire and soon to be first Million Dollar Halter sire; and Ecredible, Congress Grand Champion, three-time World Champion, and World Champion producer. Also residing in their stallion barn are The Home Run Kid, a proven futurity and World Champion sire; Cali Baba, 2014 Unanimous World Champion; and Show Stoppah, who will be standing to the public for the first time in 2016.

Finally, capping off the Three Nails Ranch group of stallions is the 10-time APHA World Champion, double registered, red roan stallion, Intensions. In 2016, the 2010 stallion by My Intention and out of Barlinkislebeastar will be enrolled in both the Amateur and Open portions of the Breeders Halter Futurity as well as the APHA Breeders’ Trust. From the very first time the Franks set eyes on “Rollie,” they knew he would make the perfect addition to their stallion lineup.

“He was at Kelly Stone’s place the first time we saw him. We liked that he was double registered, (at the time) an eight-time World Champion, and of course because he is so kind and beautiful to look at.”

Intensions_KC_2014Intensions was recently retired from the show pen after claiming two additional APHA World Champion titles, which brings his current total to ten, five of which were achieved by being unanimous in Open competition. Now, his focus has turned from competition to the business of supplying the next generation of conformation horses.

“His settled mind and willing attitude allowed him to continually go into the show pen and be at the top of his game. As far as his life now, he loves being turned out, rolling in the dirt, and being a horse. He very much enjoys his new diet plan as well!”

“We’re seeing that he’s producing great-minded and early maturing foals. We’re excited to see his get really thrive in the arena.”

With the help of Intensions and their other five exceptional stallions, the Franks plan to continue cultivating a crop of quality offspring that will help to advance the horse industry as a whole. “Aiding others in the industry to reach their goals, while maintaining integrity, is one of our goals. Another one of our primary goals is to help encourage youth to become involved with the Halter Horse industry, because they are so vital to our future.”
