Everyone has the fire, but the champions know when to ignite the spark.” ~ Dr. Amit Ray.
Approximately 30 years ago, Ingrid Miller’s very dear friend, Cheryl Busick, was looking for a horse for Ingrid’s and Bob’s son, Sean, a walk-trotter at the time. Before Ingrid ever saw the horse, she put her hand up and firmly said, “No roans,” to Cheryl, but little did she know what she was up against, she explains.
“The joke was on me,” admits Ingrid, who became the owner of Glows Jubilee (by Speedy Glow), a gelding Ingrid jokes was a “raggedy old roan” that Sean showed competitively to success throughout his youth career. “His name was Cakes, and we bought him when he was a nine-year-old when Sean was also nine, and he died in Sean’s arms 22 years later.”
Before Cakes came along, the Millers never suspected roans would become the stuff of their dreams, especially considering the roan of theirs that recently earned the coveted title of AQHA Reserve Superhorse at the 2024 AQHA World Championship Show with a prize package of $10,000 and a neck ribbon. VS The Fireman, shown by AQHA Professional Horseman Anthony Montes of Vickery Performance Horses, won multiple World Show trophies in Western Riding, Trail, and Western Pleasure.
“We were just stunned,” says Ingrid, who says she and Bob were just in the stands for the Junior Trail placings and were caught completely by surprise at the Superhorse title–thanks to the secret-keeping skills of Bruce Vickery and Anthony. “What a crown for the end of the year.”
