Wednesday was a day filled with Trail and the Novice Horse Hunter Under Saddle slot class at The Madness AQHA and NSBA show, which is hosted by the Southern Ohio Quarter Horse Association and underway at the World Equestrian Center – Wilmington this week.

Jennifer Paul and ‘Danny’ Win Junior Trail Futurity

Jennifer Paul added to a long list of Trail futurity titles she has won at the Madness when she took KM Best To Be Good through the Junior Trail course to a 239.5 score and the top placing in the class. She showed “Danny” for Chelsea Martz Churches, earning $897 for the win.

“We bought Danny last Spring as a three year old,” Jennifer said. “He had never been shown, so we started him in the Western Pleasure and added Trail at the Big A last year. He was top ten at the 2020 NSBA World Show. He just keeps blooming and progressing.” Jennifer also showed Danny at the A Sudden Impulse Futurity, where she noted he had good runs.

The four-year-old gelding by RL Best Of Sudden will become Chelsea’s Non-Pro All Around horse in 2022. “He has a really good expression in the ring, and he’s very patient,” Jennifer said. “The course today was challenging because it had a lot of quick transitions and with the two Trail classes in this arena, it was pretty tight.”

Jennifer and Danny were one point ahead of reserve champions Hot Lopin Lily and Blake Weis, who earned 235.5 and $759 for second. Dual Trail patterns ran throughout the day with huge entries seen, including 119 entries in Senior Trail.

Dawn

Familiar Faces in SOQHA NSBA Novice Horse Hunter Under Saddle

The first slot class final of the 2021 Madness was the SOQHA NSBA Novice Horse Hunter Under Saddle, held in the beautiful Sanctuary arena at the World Equestrian Center.

Coming off their win in the Maiden Hunter Under Saddle Futurity at the A Sudden Impulse Futurity two weeks ago, Only Ride The Best and Dawn Baker continued their winning ways, taking first in the class of 11 horses. They won $1,500 for the first place prize and showed for owner Caroline Cavallo.

“We just got Teddy at the first of the year,” Caroline said. “Dawn found him, and he hadn’t been shown, so we made the decision to make him a Novice horse for this year. I’m a nurse, so I knew that COVID-19 was going to have an impact on the horses going into this year.”

The three-year-old gelding is by Good Better Best. “He just has such a presence in the ring. He’s huge for a three year old, and he has a huge personality to match. I’ve been talking about finding a Hunter Under Saddle horse for about six years, and it finally came together.”

Teddy will next team up with Caroline to show in the Non-Pro Three Year Old Hunter Under Saddle classes at the NSBA World Championship Show and Congress, while Dawn will continue to show him in Novice Horse and Three Year Old events.

Taking reserve honors in the class were Its Game On and Jamie English, showing for Tali Terlizzi, who earned $1,500.

Jacquelyn

Limited Novice Horse Champion Named

In the Limited division of the SOQHA NSBA Novice Horse Hunter Under Saddle, Jacquelyn Priddy showed The Repair Man to  win, placing third overall in the Open division of the class. They earned $1,000 for the third place Open finish and an additional $250 as the Limited champion for owner Susan Burlett.

By Mechanic and out of Shes Gotta Luke, the four year old sorrel gelding is known as Perry. “We’ve only had him a few months,” Susan said.

“We loved everything about him. He’s gorgeous, talented, and he’s easy to ride and fun to ride,” added Jacquelyn. “He really wants to please you, and he gets better every time we show him. He was one of the biggest horses out there, and he shows really well. He really catches your eye.”

The trio will be competing at the Big A and later at the Congress, while Susan will also show him at the 2021 AQHYA World Show.

The Madness continues through Sunday, May 16. For additional information, please visit anequineproduction.com, visit the SOQHA Facebook page, or view the Show Tracker app for updates.
