The North Central Paint Horse Championships are headed to the Mile High City this April, taking place in conjunction with the Rocky Mountain Rendezvous Paint-O-Rama April 6–10 at the National Western Complex in Denver, Colorado.
“We’re hoping to bring in a lot of the open show and 4-H exhibitors who have Paint Horses in the area. With just being an eight-judge show, we’re hoping to get more local exhibitors that don’t have the World Show in their scope to participate,” Rocky Mountain Paint Horse Association Treasurer Sue Willard said. “The show benefits the RMPHA Youth Development Foundation scholarship fund, so our biggest goal is to maintain our scholarships that are awarded to local Youth members.”
Hosted by the RMPHA, the North Central Paint Horse Championships will offer 18 special championship classes. To be eligible to compete in the championship classes, exhibitors must reside within Zone 3, which consists of Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming; exhibitors also cannot have placed in the Top Five in a halter class or Top 10 in a performance class at an APHA World Championship Show in the past five years. The Paint Horse Championships celebrate the success of exhibitors at the regional level and encourages local participation. APHA sponsors awards for up to 15 classes, along with up to $3,500 in awards for Zone classes. Paint Horse Championship class winners receive a custom Gist Silversmiths belt buckle, and 2nd–6th place receive medallions.
