NCEA News
The University of the South (Sewanee) has announced its equestrian program will participate in the NCEA beginning in the 2021-22 season.
“We welcome Sewanee, the University of the South, to the NCEA this year,” Dr. Leah Fiorentino, NCEA Executive Director, said. “Sewanee has a long history of outstanding equestrian programs and adding an NCEA option will continue to draw national attention to the college. Sewanee will be joining the NCEA as a single discipline Jumping Seat squad and is sure to be a strong competitor this year.”
Since the inception of the equestrian program in 1996, the University of the South has a long tradition of excellence in varsity athletics. Our varsity equestrian program is a proud member of the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA). In addition, the program is also sponsored by the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) and is an affiliate member of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).
“I am excited about the opportunity for our riders to compete at the NCEA, Karine Gordy, Director of Equestrian, said. “Our program has seen great success over the last few years, and we hope this opportunity will benefit us in the future as we move forward to equestrian becoming an NCAA emerging sport.”
Sponsoring 24 varsity sports, Sewanee is a charter member of the Southern Athletic Association and is a proud member of NCAA Division III.
