A large chunk of charge was on the line for this evening’s Reichert Sale Stakes 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure classes at the 2014 Reichert Celebration. First up, in the Non-Pro division, Nancy Ditty rode Best Game In Town to a win in the Reichert Sale Stakes 2-Year-Old Non Pro Western Pleasure. “Georgia” is by RL Best Of Sudden and out of Ditty’s old show mare, Troubles A Blazin.
“We bred and raised her,” Ditty says. “Their markings are identical, but there are a lot of differences. I’m very excited. She is fun to show.”
Trainer, Angie Cannizzaro, informed us that Georgia and Ditty have been competing at major events all summer and are currently undefeated. The pair has claimed titles at the Little Futurity, Tom Powers Futurity, and NSBA World Show. Up next on their agenda is the Reichert Sale Stakes Buyer’s Choice 2-Year-Old Open Western Pleasure tomorrow evening and the All American Quarter Horse Congress.
Georgia is certainly an eye-catching mare, with her steady topline and balanced frame, but Cannizzaro is quick to praise the horse’s talent and consistency above all else.
“She’s very proportionate and even both ways,” Cannizzaro says. “Her legs are very consistent. She stands up in her front end.”
The next class of the evening was the 2-Year-Old Open Western Pleasure Stakes, which saw Dave Archer ride Simply Ziprageous to a win for Danny Desmond. The pair took home a whopping $10,000 check for their efforts. Adding to that total, Desmond rode “Patsy” in the Non-Pro class and won $5,000 for second place. That’s quite the payday for just two classes for the mare by Ziprageous and out of a daughter of Blazing Hot.
“She’s best suited for western pleasure,” Archer says. “She’s perfectly made. She’s really good through her hocks and great in her front leg. She’s everything we wanted.”
It just so happened that Desmond was also riding in the class this evening and placed seventh aboard Just Like Charlie. We wondered how Archer and Desmond decided which rider would ride which horse.
“Danny and I do a lot of stuff together,” he says. “We own some horses together, but he owns this one. We decided this would be a good class for me to ride him in. [Competing against the owner] we planned it like that! We chose whoever would be best suited for each horse. Luckily, it worked out for me!”
