My Next Edition and Ryan Painter Take the Reins of A Sudden Impulse NSBA Open Hunter Derby

Filed under: Around The Ring Galleries,Featured,Show Results & Gallery |

Sunny skies and a cool breeze greeted exhibitors entered in the NSBA $5000 Open Hunter Derby at A Sudden Impulse 2025 at World Equestrian Center – Ocala on Thursday morning, and when the final round was complete, My Next Edition and Ryan Painter were crowned champions for owner Hana Thomas with a payout of $1250.

Painter says he has shown the 2015 gelding by The Next Detail and out of My First Kiss for about three years, so he knows him very well. “He trusts me, and we get along great, so I knew I could trust him for the inside turn.” He adds that the handy round is where My Next Edition really shines, and he knew they could make up ground there.

Painter, whose facility, Ryan Painter Show Stables, is located in Ocala, says he’s also excited to be at WEC-Ocala this summer to practice indoors.

“We love to show in the air conditioning!” he says. “A lot of our Quarter Horse fall championship shows are indoors, so it’s great for us to prepare indoors.  We’re excited about it.”

Results for Thursday morning’s NSBA Open Hunter Derby:

Champion: My Next Edition with Ryan Painter for Hana Thomas -$1250
