Don’t get too excited. As a respected media outlet, EquineChronicle.com is remaining completely neutral when it comes to the upcoming Presidential Election. However, we couldn’t help but develop a fond spot for a special, weanling gelding we spotted this week in the Halter pen at the APHA World Show who just happens to have a very famous namesake…
Given that Election Day is fast approaching, we simply HAD to talk to Patricia Borland and Matt and Erin Henderson about the red roan gelding they call Mr. Trump! Mr. Trump is by the stallion, To Be Admired, and out of the mare, Who’s Got The Charm. He was bred and raised by Joe and Nancy Berry of Visalia, California.
After purchasing Trump just three weeks ago, Erin Henderson explains she and her husband were looking to give this special foal a unique show name. “We like to give horses fun names and something that can be memorable. He’s a half-brother to Mr. Swartznager, so it seemed to fit.”
Erin’s mother, Patricia, showed Trump for the first time in Amateur Weanling Geldings here at the APHA World and placed fourth. “Other than having a little ants in his pants in the class, he’s very mild mannered,” Patricia says. “You can drop the lead rope, and he will stand right there. His personality is really good.”
Erin seconds that assessment describing Trump as easy-going, good-minded, and very adaptable to the horse show environment. Yesterday, Erin and Trump placed Reserve in Gold/Silver Sr. Weanling Stallions/Geldings winning $2,840.
Trump has caught the eye of more than just the judges. As of Saturday, he already has a new owner, JJ Carpenter, who led the gelding to a Reserve finish in Breeders’ Futurity Platinum Non-Pro Weanling Geldings yesterday. They won a check for $4,884. Erin is excited that Trump will be staying in the barn at Turner-Henderson Show Horses.
“He’s been really easy-going the whole trip,” Erin says. “It’s been 2,400 miles for us to get out here, and he’s been really easy-going and fun. He’s real strong over his back and real balanced. He has a good set of hocks on him, and he’s big for his age. He’s going to be a fun long-term gelding, not something that will just play as a weanling.”
Trump isn’t done just yet. He has one more class left to show in: Open Weanling Geldings. And yes, it happens to fall on Election Day!
“On Election Day, hopefully all things will go well for Mr Trump and soon to be President-Elect Donald Trump,” Erin says.
