Caitlin Tenewitz

By: Brittany Bevis

We’re bouncing back and forth between arenas here at the 2018 APHA World Show. Over in the John Justin Arena, the first World Champion crowned was Caitlin Tenewitz with One Lazy Cowboy in Novice Amateur Trail. The Reserve World Champion was Lynise Marshall with A Western Sensation. Third was Shari Van Dyke with Ira Sensation. Fourth was Sarah Clymer with Izzy Charlie. Fifth was Ryann Herrera with Wicked White N Fancy.

Over in the Watt Arena, Fred Tabor led Imagine Brooks to win WCHA Open Jr Weanling Colts. The Reserve Champion was Callie Hernandez with Fake News. Third was Monte Horn with Mr Ego. Fourth was Kathy Smallwood with FG He’s A Wild Card. Fifth was Kevin Williams with Hes Styled.

The Non Pro Champion was Callie Hernandez. The Reserve Champion was Kevin Williams. Third was Raegan Watson with LLR Calee Baba. Fourth was JL Robinson with Premos Secret. Fifth was Jackie Rushton with Suchan Cool Ego.

Callie has owned 5-year-old “Brady” since he was two years old. He’s by Lazy Loper and is the first baby out of One Sensational Cowgirl. “He’s really careful in Trail, just like Pumpkin, and he looks exactly like his dad. He’s a really fun all around horse. He has an old soul. When he was a yearling, he would just sit and watch the other horses being trained and take everything in stride. He has always been this quiet.”

In addition to his calm and sweet demeanor, Callie praises Brady’s careful nature over poles.

“He was very careful on his walk-overs today, putting two steps in where he was supposed to. Also, our lope-overs were really good. Carly goes over every little element with us, from where we’re supposed to go, to the spots we’re supposed to hit. Then, she always makes sure that the horses are spot on, so we never have to worry about that.”

Buddy Laney

This is Callie and Brady’s second World Championship of the show. They won their first ever title in Novice Amateur Equitation, earlier in the week. Coming up next, they will compete in Amateur Trail and Amateur Horsemanship.

Buddy Laney was at the lead of FG Xxpectations to win WCHA Open Senior Weanling Colts. The Reserve Champion was Monte Horn with Fearocious. Third was Terry Sartain with Keepin It Coolicious. Fourth was Steven Britt with Southern Gunslinger. Fifth was Clint Fullerton with Heza Double Agent.

The Non Pro Champion was Steven Britt. The Reserve Champion was Susan Voegele with Intentional King. Third was Christopher Page with Stayin In Style. Fourth was Luther Copeland with Initials Here. Fifth was Suzonne Franks with TNR Undeniable.

This colt is a half sibling to the weanling filly Buddy won with yesterday- FG Centerfold. Both are owned by Linda Gordon. “He’s by Very Cool and out of I Execute Class, which I won with at the AQHA World for Rita Crundwell. We bought her, and now she’s a broodmare. Then, Execute is sire of his dam, and we have him also. I won at the World Show with him too, so it goes back three generations.”

FG Xxpectations is a double-registered APHA breeding stock and AQHA colt. After he competes again next week, he will head to the AQHA World Show later this fall.

“He’s got a lot of expression. He’s really a good show horse. He’s got a lot of presence to him. He has something people gravitate to. He’s really correct and has a huge hip, little short ear, big eye, and cute color with just enough white to make him stand out.”

Terry Sartain

We wondered how Buddy goes about preparing such young horses to compete at three major events in the fall- the Breeders Halter Futurity, APHA World Show, and AQHA World Show- without overwhelming their young minds and sometimes fragile growth stages.

“The thing is that if you pick out the right babies, it tends to take care of itself. I’ve got the luxury of having a lot to pick through. If you keep them healthy, they will pretty much fit themselves. You want to keep them healthy and keep their legs good. Some of them will grow a little late. Not all of them are cut out to be futurity babies. You have to go with the individual. It also helps because I know the breeding of our babies and what has worked in the past.”
