Today’s competition at the 2015 APHA World Championship Show is being split between three different arenas, with multiple disciplines underway. Over in the John Justin arena, Kayln Epperson rode Endless Sensation to win Novice Amateur Trail. The Reserve World Champion was Haley Cooper with Fascination Sensation. Third place was Kelsey Luna with Zippin My Teddy. Fourth place was Janet Jordan with Capture The Impulse. Rounding out the top five was Sarah Bankford with Scotch With Roses. Masters Amateur Trail is currently taking place.
Over in the Watt Arena, Open Halter classes are well underway. Winning Weanling Mares was Olin Parker with Essence Of Chrome for new owner Robin Robinett. The Reserve Champion in the class was JT Mitchell with Sacred Sally. Third place was Jodi Finkenbinder with Keeping Faith. Fourth place was Tim Finkenbinder with She’s Intensional. Rounding out the top five was Joshua Larman with MMR Tootee.
Essence Of Chrome is a new acquisition for Robin Robinett, who’s had her eye on the filly since spotting her at the Iowa Breeders’ Futurity earlier this year. “We purchased her yesterday from Dave and Patricia Breitberg from Illinois. They’ve raised some really nice babies over the years.”
Robin believes this filly has a very optimistic future not only because of her sweet disposition but also her correct conformation. “She’s what I would call a non-confrontational filly. She really doesn’t have any major faults. We’re using some specialty WCHA judges here, and they’ve been taught to judge on major and minor faults. She really doesn’t have anything that’s divisive.”
Essence of Chrome is by Chromed Up and out of a mare named Bobbi Socks Imprint.
In Yearling Mares, Jason Smith led Red Hot N Stylish to a win. The Reserve Champion was JT Mitchell with KR Lone Star Lola. Third place was Steve Ferguson with Girls Got Guns. Fourth place was Tim Finkenbinder with I’m Secretly A Cowgirl. Fifth place was Joshua Larman with My Secret Dream.
Tim Finkenbinder led She’s Got Guns to a win in 2-Year-Old Mares for Joe and Nancy Berry. The Reserve Champion was Jason Smith with RJN Centerfold. Third place was Olin Parker with RJN Missheartbreaker. Fourth place was Jerm Christensen with Shezmaknacquistions. Fifth place was Jarrell Jackson with Marabella.
Joe and Nancy Berry weren’t able to make the trip to the World Show this year, but She’s Got Guns, aka “Beauty,” was in good hands with Ramsey and Heather Berry. Beauty is a beautiful bay mare by Winrageous and out of a mare named I’m An Awesome Babe, that’s also owned by the Berry family.
“She has so much presence,” Heather says. “Not only is she conformationally very correct but she’s very pretty as well.”
The entire operation at Lazy JN Ranch in Visalia, CA is definitely a family affair with all the members of the Berry family assisting in the breeding, raising, fitting, and showing of Halter champions.
Winning 3-Year-Old Geldings was Matthew Henderson with Desperados Legacy. The Reserve Champion was Tim Finkenbinder with Sophisticated Playgirl. Third place was JT Mitchell with JWR Shez Got Bling. Fourth place was Olin Parker with Grace Kelley. Fifth place was Terry Sartain and Shez Passionate.
The winner of Aged Mares was Jason Smith with MNC Kupcakz for Diamond 2M Show Horses. The Reserve World Champion was Olin Parker with Intentionally Made. Placing third was Sidney Thomas with Cool Secrets N Lace. Fourth place was Terry Sartain with Execute Rules. Fifth place was Goose Ballard with Angelica Imprinted.
