The World Conformation Horse Association’s Big Money Futurity classes are well underway here at the 2018 World Championship Show, and BIG doesn’t just refer to the check sizes being presented. There were 29 exhibitors in this morning’s Non Pro Senior Weanling Fillies!

First up this morning, Ingrid McPherson led Brooks Obsession to win Big Money Non Pro Jr. Weanling Fillies. The Reserve Champion was Gerald Fleisner with Tezzla. Third was Charlie McCollum with Sheza Stylish Heir. Fourth was Mark Niebrugge with Boss E. Fifth was Logan Lorenz with LFL Espionage. Ingrid McPherson was also named the Color division champion. The Reserve Champion was Charlie McCollum. Third was Mark Niebrugge.

This is a special win for McPherson because “Leddy,” named after her favorite brand of boots, is a homebred filly out of an Obsessed To Impress mare named One Tuff Obsession. “She’s by Brooks Or Dunn, who was always my favorite stallion. I have always loved the way the way he looked and his whole demeanor. He was such a proud horse.”

Today was not only McPherson’s first time showing Leddy, but it was the filly’s first time in the show pen as well. “I was so impressed with her. Of course, I was a little concerned, because she’s a late baby, and it always takes time to train them. It was the first time for me and for her.”

McPherson’s trainer is Fred Tabor, who, in her option is “the best.”

“He had me lean on the horse, touch the horse, and go through the whole procedure over and over again with the same moves so she got comfortable.”

During McPherson’s interview, we detected a bit of an accent; that’s because she was born in Germany and didn’t come to the U.S. until 1985. “I only got into horses in 2012 by adopting an orphan foal, and that’s how I got connected to Tabor Ranch. Then, of course, you can never have only one horse, so now I’m in the breeding business.”

Nancy Dyer

Nancy Dyer led Secret Entention to win Big Money Non Pro Senior Weanling Fillies. The Reserve Champion was Julie Smith with Bittersweet. Third was Shelley Grissom with Ecredibility. Fourth was Greg Davis with My Ceecret. This team was also the Color Champion. Fifth was Carolyn McGaughey with FG A Very Cool Charm.

In the color division of the class, the Reserve Champion was Carolyn McGaughey. Third was Andrea Olson with TNR Sheza Criminal. Fourth was Wilburn Archer with Don’t Kiss N Tel. Fifth was Marie Eve Jolin with She’s Coolsified.

This was Dyer’s first time competing at the APHA World Show, and her first time leading her new filly. She was purchased last week at the Breeders Halter Futurity when Ted Turner led her to a third place finish for then owner, Sally Sullivan. “She is by Ententions, the stud we raised, and out of Victoria Secret. She’s the first baby born by our stud, so this is pretty exciting. She’s got good genetics on both sides. She’s really mature for a weanling. She’s really balanced, and she has a lot of eye appeal.”

Today, Dyer and her filly won a little over $6,000. Up next, they will head to the Congress and AQHA World Show.

In the Platinum Non Pro Weanling Mares Futurity, Adam Matthews was the winner. The Reserve Champion was Kevin Williams with Ascendence. Third was Ingrid McPherson with Brooks Obsession. Fourth was Susan Voegele with Ms Classy Intensions. Fifth was Charlie McCollum with Sheza Stylish Heir. Anastasia led KR Need A Sugardaddy to win the Solid Paint Bred version of the class. The Reserve Champion was Greg Davis with My Ceecret.
