The first set of Western Pleasure World Champions have been crowned at the 2016 World Championship Show this morning. First up, Erin Bradshaw won her third World Championship of the horse show, this time with I’m Johnny Cash in Classic Amateur Junior Western Pleasure. “Cash” is by her stallion John Simon, who she rode to win Classic Amateur Senior Western Pleasure yesterday afternoon. To complete the JS three-peat, she also won the Non-Pro 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure with another John Simon-bred foal, Elicious.
The Reserve Champion in Classic Amateur Junior Western Pleasure was Tracy Stenroos with Quita Machine. Third was Joseph Brewer with Good At It. Fourth was Andrea Foss with Fleets Imagination. Fifth was Calli Rouse with Only After Midnight.
In Amateur SPB Yearling Longe Line, Nicole Dalton led Coated N Couture for the win. The Reserve Champion was Marlene Beall with I Luv Xes N Ohs. Placing third was Jay Dejonghe with I Prefer Trouble. Fourth was Mikey Trueba with Buckle Up Buttercup. Fifth was Eleanor Sndyer with Scandalous Catch.
Then, Melvin Mousley won his first World Championship title with Sensational Design, aka “Minnie Mousley,” in Masters Amateur Junior Western Pleasure.
We remember speaking with trainer, Wade Parks, back in 2013 at the Reichert Celebration when he rode Minnie for the very first time, winning the Limited division of the Equine Chronicle Color Classic 2-Year-Old Open Western Pleasure. That performance also happened to take place here in Fort Worth in the John Justin arena.
Another similarity between the two wins is that today marks Melvin’s first World Championship title with Minnie. Wade’s win in 2013 was his first time winning a belt buckle. At that time, Wade’s wife of two months, Carly Veldman-Parks, rode My Sensational Star to place Reserve in the class. Bringing things full circle today, Wade held his new son, Caden Parks, as he watched Melvin and Minnie lope up to accept their awards.
2013 was the first of many wins for Minnie, which have since included World Championships in Three-Year-Old Western Pleasure, Junior Western Pleasure, a Reserve Championship in Green, and a Reserve in the Masters Amateur division. Minnie is now five years old.
“She’s a special little girl. She’s got her little quirks, like all of them do, but when you go in the show pen, she’s all business,” Melvin says. “Her lope is to die for, and her jog isn’t too shabby either. I’ve had a couple of really good horses in the past, but nothing like this. She’s special.”
“The people who bred her had a full brother to her they named Mighty Mouse. Then, when she was born, they named her Minnie Mouse, so that’s where Minnie came from. I didn’t know her name when I bought her. Now, Carly calls her Minnie Mousley. I wouldn’t let her be with nobody else. Wade loves this mare, big time.”
The Reserve Champion was Susan Juroe with First N Line. Third was Pam Switzer with No Doubt I’m Invited. Fourth was Marcie Griffin-Michaels with Gotta Glo Slo. Fifth was Tim Snapp with Scenery.
