In Texas, we deal in horses. But it might seem strange that horses played an integral part in the MLB Texas Rangers signing a 6-year extension with their second baseman, Roughned Odor. Strange, but entirely true.
The Texas Rangers recently announced that Odor agreed to a 6-year, $49.5 million deal that included a special bonus, a 4-year-old Quarter Horse mare named Smokin’ Hancock Drift and her newborn foal.
It seems when Odor wavered in negotiations (for a deal some commented was $3 million below market value) Texas Rangers Managing Partner, Ray Davis, who also raises Quarter Horses in Denison, TX., brought the mare and foal into the bargaining process.
