Luke Castle was at the lead of Initials Only, a bay roan stallion by CK Kid and out of Be A Tardee, this afternoon for owner Terry Bradshaw of Thackerville, Oklahoma. Castle and “Concho” were named the World Champions in the Aged Stallions class today at the 2014 AQHA World Championship Show. The Reserve World Champion was Tom Robertson with Ecredible. Rounding out the top three was Mike McMillian with Entrepreneurs Touch.

We caught up with Terry Bradshaw following the win to find out a bit more about the beautiful stallion he’s owned for the past three years.

“I bought him as a yearling from Betty Keith up in Idaho,” Bradshaw says. “He’s by my stallion, CK Kid, so she sent us a picture over the Internet. I looked and thought he was gorgeous, so we bought him. When he got off the trailer, he looked even better than we thought, so I called Luke to come look at him.”

Not only does Concho possess massive size and impressive muscling for a 4-year-old N/N stallion, Bradshaw is quite fond of the horse’s unique coloring.

“He isn’t grey; he’s bay roan, so he almost looks blue roan,” Bradshaw says. “He’s got a silky mousey color that’s just beautiful. His bloodtype is N/N, and today that’s critical. He is a massive horse, he is sound on his legs, and he always has been. He carries his weight well. He is royally bred and has a big, huge hip. It’s scary how big it is. And he has a baby doll head.”

“He goes back on the bottom side to Tardee Impressive, who was a great World Champion, and then his mother is out of The Continental, by Continental Can, so that’s where the roan came from.”

Now that he’s been named a World Champion, Concho will head back to Thackerville to begin siring the next generation of champions for Terry Bradshaw Quarter Horses. Although the stallion won’t stand to the public, Bradshaw has plans to infuse Concho’s bloodlines throughout his own broodmare band.

“We have 26 broodmares, so he will be busy,” Bradshaw says. “We’re always trying to upgrade our broodmare band and always trying new bloodlines.”
