Seafood, surf, sand, seagulls, and sun are just part of one of the best horse shows in the world. The Sun and Surf AQHA show in Del Mar, California is the perfect picture of luxury, fun, and, of course, amazing horses. Just five minutes from the beach, competitors can enjoy dining at amazing restaurants like The Poseidon where you can watch waves from your table. Not only that, but if you bring your furry best friend, there is also a special beach just for them.
Outside of all the extracurricular activities, the Sun and Surf is in full practice mode as everyone prepares for the busy kickoff this morning in The Equine Chronicle Arena. I got the opportunity to catch up with a few exhibitors and ask them what they’re most looking forward to here at the show. Emma Edwards, who shows This Is Why I’m Here, said she’s most excited about being back with her horse and getting to hang out with her friends. Meanwhile, amateur Brianna Heckle, who shows Good on the Range and Good Time Cruzin, said she’s most looking forward to showing in Trail. Finally, Cori Cansdale, who shows Promotional Asset, said she’s so excited about having the chance to hang out with all of her friends who have been away at college.
The Sun and Surf is home to some of the nicest staff. As soon as you walk into the office, they greet you with a bright smile and a helping hand during the easiest sign up process with no late fees! Yesterday, as the day progressed, people longed their horses, practiced patterns, and had a ball chatting with friends. At four o’clock, there was an Exhibitors’ Party where there were delicious strawberries, exotic cheeses, and exquisite wine, all hosted by The Equine Chronicle. Exhibitors and family were able to kick back and enjoy the company of all the wonderful people attending the show.
This morning, the Sun and Surf kicks off Day 1 with Trail and Hunter under Saddle. I know that I can’t wait to step out into the sun and show my heart out.
