Kylee is thrilled to begin her amateur career with “Richard,” the 2018 bay gelding by Machine Made and out of World and Congress Champion Momma Knows Best.  “I’ve always loved this horse, his movement, and his presence in the show pen. It’s truly amazing that I have the opportunity to own him,” says Kylee.  “I can’t wait to start my amateur career with such a great horse!”

Start Ur Engines made a name for himself in 2021 in the first class he was shown in, the March to the Arch 3 & Over Horse Slot Class and Maiden Bonus, to the tune of a $15k prize with Andy Cochran.

He followed with wins of the Congress and the NSBA BCF in the 3 Year Old Non Pro Western Pleasure with Hillary Roberts Timchak, the AQHA L1 Green Western Pleasure with Andy, and a Bronze at the AQHA World show in the Amateur L3 with Hillary.

In 2022, Andy asked Sue Roberts if she was ready to show him in the Select at March to the Arch.  They knew that Sue had always wanted to show a horse raised at their farm, Andy explains, so she began swapping back and forth between Richard and her other horse, Sure Am Southern.

“Richard is the first home bred horse I have had the privilege to show,” Sue explains. “He has always been one of my favorites.”  They went on to win at the Sudden Impulse Futurity in Ocala, and Richard began her primary show horse. Then they won the 50 & Over at NSBA World, followed by the World in Select Western Pleasure.  “He was always so honest and good for me in the pen, and I will miss him terribly,” Sue reveals.

Richard was the first foal by Machine Made and out of Momma Knows Best, a mare who means a lot to Andy Cochran.  “She is a very special horse to me,” says Andy.  “I won the World on her, which was the first World Championship I won for Capital Quarter Horses, and Hillary won the Congress on her and the AQHA World Show in 2018.  She was one of those horses that became ‘my horse,’ so to have her offspring make a World and Congress Champion as well is amazing.”

In fact, Momma Knows Best was crowned Champion with Youth World, Amateur World and Open World titles, and was Reserve at the Select World, and Andy says Richard was also unique from the beginning.

Sue agrees, explaining that since Richard was born, she thought he was the cutest little thing and they formed a special attachment. “His name was Dick,” she laughs, “because he was a bit wild and he did what he wanted to do as a foal, but after Andy started working with him, we changed his name to Richard.”

The outcome of the cross of Machine Made and Momma Knows Best surpassed their expectations to the point that they made the cross three times since then, with great success.  “It’s a bittersweet sale,” admits Sue. “We’re particular about where our horses go, and we know we sent him to a wonderful home where Blake and Becca Britton will take great care of him.  Kylee has already fallen in love with him and they will be a really good match.”

“He’s a great horse,” says Andy.  “We’re excited for Kylee, for Blake and Becca, and for Debbie and Dennis, Kylee’s grandparents, and we wish them the best of success.”

Hillary concludes, “Richard is one of the strongest and most capable horses I’ve shown. He’s super smart, highly trainable and just a joy to show. He gives you 100% percent when you call on him. He gave us one of the most gratifying moments of our breeding career in winning the Select World with my mom. He’s special to all of us, and we are glad to send him on to help Kylee Wiseman accomplish her biggest dreams!
