After winning the Open Yearling Longe Line class at the Tom Powers Futurity and then the NSBA World Championship Show, I’m Fancy Schmancy completed an open hat trick by claiming a Congress Championship today with Kenny Lakins at the lead in Open Western Yearling Longe Line. Over the weekend, owner Randy Haines won the non pro version of the class.

“Hailey” is by Batt Man, a stallion owned by Randy Haines, John Wainscott and Trevor Barnes, Battman LLC, and out of a Congress Champion mare named Ima Fancy Version, also owned by John Wainscott and Kim and Randy Haines. “Batt Man was a Congress Champion; her mom was a Congress Champion; and now she is a Congress Champion, so that’s pretty cool. We bred and raised her, so that’s even better!”

“Randy does all of the training himself. Kenny meets us at the shows, but most of the time she gets to be a horse. That’s the biggest thing that I think is important. We turn her out in between horse shows and let her hang out in her field. I think that’s why she’s kept such a good attitude. She always keeps her ears forward, and she’s not real grouchy.”

That lucky red shirt...

That lucky red shirt…

Now that Hailey has clinched, not one but, two Congress Champion titles at this year’s show, she will be in the upcoming Congress Super Sale. “It’s kind of [sad], but we breed and raise them and we want them to go to good homes and good trainers.”

Watching the class today provided a deja vu moment for Haines, because last year Lakins won with a similarly bred yearling named Quite Ride that was owned by Pete Mead, also by Batt Man. Perhaps for a little bit of good luck, Lakins once again wore a red shirt…
