Although several horse and rider teams fell victim to the complex obstacles and elaborate decorations on the Novice Youth 14-18 Trail course today, Kelsey Kafesjian and Tramps Invitation were able to rise above and complete what she describes as her best pattern ever.
“She was definitely looking at some of the obstacles like the wooden things and scary stuff,” Kafesjian says. “I just focused on putting her where I wanted her to go and not thinking about it, like they weren’t there.”
“It was the best pattern I’ve ever had on her in trail, so I was happy no matter what. This is surreal; I’ve been dreaming about it for months.”
6-year-old “Cheese” and 18-year-old Kafesjian have one more year of competition in the 14-18 age division before they move up into the amateur ranks. Next year, she hopes to return to the World Show to compete in 14-18 Trail and add a new event, western riding.
Meanwhile, they still have two of their favorite classes left to go, western pleasure and horsemanship. This team hails from Utah and currently competes under the guidance of Sandy Morgan.
“Sandy told me to give her a lot of space, slow down, take deep breaths, and not to rush,” she says. Kafesjian’s favorite obstacles in trail are trot serpentines and spiral lope-overs.
Congratulations to Kelsey Kafesjian and Tramps Invitation for achieving their first World Championship title!
