Keith Miller was in the irons of Hotforyourhonor to win Level 1 Hunter Under Saddle this evening at the All American Quarter Horse Congress for owner, Pamela Raad, and trainers, Gene Spagnola and Gretchen Mathes. But, this wasn’t your typical catch ride.

“The funny story is that I bought him in May,” Keith says. “Missy Thyfault was riding him around at the SOQHA Madness, and we bought him for a customer. Six days later, Gene called and said that he heard that we’d bought a really good one. I told him that I really liked him. He had a customer that had been looking, the Raad family. We worked out a deal, and they bought him. I said I wanted to show him here and at the World Show. It was a very quick turn around for our customers, but we knew he was a very nice horse and it would be a great home. The deal was done.”

“Quincy” is a 5-year-old gelding by Signature Of Honor and out of a Hot N Blazing mare. Already here at the show, he’s won Level 1 14-18 Hunter Under Saddle with Lauren Raad, was Reserve in the Limited Maturity with Jessica Ross, and third in Junior Hunter Under Saddle with Nancy Sue Ryan. Up next, Pamela Raad will show him in Select Hunter Under Saddle. “We never got to show him, but they’ve been showing him and winning a lot,” Keith says.

Everyone at Powderbrook Farms has something nice to say about Quincy.

“Beautiful,” says Lauren Raad of Keith and Quincy’s ride this evening.

“He’s very easygoing and loves to do his job,” says Pamela Raad.

“I think he’s breathtaking. He’s an amazing trotter, and his canter is beyond words. It gives you goosebumps. I haven’t seen a canter like that in a long time,” says Gretchen Mathes.

The only person not present to comment on Quincy’s skills is Powderbrook assistant trainer, Ricky Noiseux. But the Raad family is sure he would have very complimentary things to say, because the two have a special bond.

The Reserve Champion was Beth Case with Couture Blue Genes. Third was Farley McLendon with Kruze Control. Fourth was Jamie English with He’s A Dream Weaver. Fifth was Karen Graham with I Will Be Detailed.
