The first class of the day in the Mustang Arena at the 2023 NSBA World Championship Show, Junior Ranch Trail, had 25 total entries, and on the top of all combined judges was Lil Bit Shiny with John Briggs. “Quattro” is owned by Lori Allen. “He’s a good horse, I love him, he tries real hard,” says trainer and exhibitor John Briggs. “My son got to show him at the Paint World, and he won the Intermediate Trail there, we also took him to Kentucky and showed him there and he got circuit champion – he’s a good boy.”
When asked how this all-around trainer is enjoying the Ranch events, he says it’s fun and gives him a new challenge, which includes switching disciplines back and forth. “I’m really liking it – you’ve got to use your feet doing the other events to control their bodies, and this is more using your seat and guiding with your hands, I have to kind of think about it a little bit, but I’m getting better at it.”
He says today, he felt like Quattro was really listening to him the whole time. “And it’s hard in this arena, at the far end there’s a lot of distractions, and I felt like he was listening to me and thinking about the poles, so I didn’t have to do very much today.”
