Jo Ann Niffenegger wins Select Eq Over Fences with Real Good Reason at 2022 AQHA World
On Monday, November 14th, at the 2022 AQHA World Championship Show, Jo Ann Niffenegger won Amateur Select Equitation Over Fences with Real Good Reason, right after a Reserve in the Amateur Select Working Hunter!
Jo Ann, who rides with Ryan Painter, explains she bought “Reggie” from Trish Sarchett a year ago after her horse had gone lame. “Ryan had him in the barn, and Trish had just sent him home to Arizona,” she says. “I was at a horse show, and my horse went lame, and I asked, ‘What about Reggie? Do you think Reggie would work for me?’”
So though Reggie had gone all the way back to Arizona, he was there for one day, and he turned around and came back to Ryan, Jo Ann says.
“We have been a team ever since – he is a great Equitation horse. He acts like a pony at home, but when he goes into the show pen, he just clicks in and he knows that’s where he does his job,” she explains, and she says that was how her pattern felt today.
“He was a little slow going into my first fence, but Ryan pounds into my head to stay the same and don’t make a move, because it’s never the right choice. So a slow one came up, I stayed there, and then all the other fences just lined up, and he just stayed on the pace the whole time. He was just so good all the way to the last fence.”
