The 2016 Southern Ohio Quarter Horse Association Futurity took place over the weekend of August 27-28 in Wilmington, Ohio with three AQHA judges officiating: Mark Russell, Jeff Greaves, and Doug Huls. The event racked up more than 800 entries per judge, according to show management team Mark Harrell Horse Shows.
The main event during the show was the SOQHA $5,000 3-Year-Old and Over Novice Horse Western Pleasure Futurity for limited, intermediate, and non-pro riders only. Winning the class and receiving a check for $3,500 was Jim Chafin aboard VS Security Code for owner Joni Gainey. VS Security Code is by VS Code Red and out of Strutnontheopenrange. The Reserve Champion was Tammy Gagliardo riding Rock In My Roll and winning $2,500 as both the rider and owner.
Third place was Melvin Yoder with Just Call Me Lazy for Annette Snowden, winning $2,000. Fourth was Donnie Recchiuti with Aint In No Hurry for Susan Findlay, winning $1,500. Fifth was Trevor Barnes with Invest N Your Dreams for Debra Barnes, winning $1,000. Sixth place was Carly Veldman-Parks with Extremely Good Stuff for Lauren Crivelli, winning $500. Tying for seventh place was Brian Bernatowicz with Suggest The Best and Rick Cecil with So Darn Lazy.
