Jennifer Paul achieved a milestone this evening at the 2017 AQHA World Championship Show when she rode Some Hot Potential to win Senior Trail for owner, Emma Brown. This was not only Jennifer’s first World Championship title, but also the first for “Brett.”
“The highest Brett has been was fourth in Junior Trail,” Jennifer says. “I’ve been showing at the World Show for nine years, at least. It feels wonderful to win! I was just excited to be in the top three.”
Going into the finals this evening, Jennifer was feeling a bit of pressure, because she was leading the preliminaries with the highest score. “It’s tough leading, going into the finals. I did that a couple of years ago. Of course, there’s more pressure, but I tried to stay focused and give it all I had.”
Jennifer commented on the very challenging course, designed by Tim “The Trail Man” Kimura, that really put these senior horses to the test. “It was a hard course. The challenging part for me was backing through the gate, because Brett tries to rush the gate and sometimes thinks he can do it on his own. Today, he waited on me, so that went smoothly. Also, having your pace in the extended lope and trying to find your distance to the pole was tough. After I got to the first pole, it went well. Also, the extended trot was definitely a tough area.”
Two maneuvers Jennifer feels she and Brett received bonus points on from the judges include the green trot serpentines and spins in the boxes.
The Reserve Champion was Jason Martin with Heza Radical Zip. Third was Chad Evans with One Hot Royality. Fourth was Charlie Cole with More Radical. Fifth was Blake Weis with Snap Krackle Pop.
