Three days. Ten judges. Impossible?  Not at all.

The Iowa Paint Horse Club proved their three-day Memorial Classic set-up was not only possible but very well-received by APHA competitors who attended the event over the weekend. The show took place May 23-25 at the Iowa Equestrian Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Judges for Saturday were Kim Garrett, Andrea Kohen, Gary Reynolds, and Pat Trebesch. Judges on Sunday were Tina Price, Nancy Wilde, Mike Sheppard, and Ruth Ann Berney. Judges on Monday were Clint Fullerton and Randy Alderson.

During a time in the horse industry when seven to ten day super-events are becoming the norm, the IPHC Memorial Day Classic was a refreshing change for competitors that harkened back to the times of the true “weekend horse show.”

But just because the show was short in duration doesn’t mean it was short on fun! On Monday, competitors were invited to participate in a Memorial Day Team Tournament where groups of four competed for Grand and Reserve prizes that included embroidered stall front horsewear bags.

Prizes were awarded to winners in each race heat and a Grand Champion was named. The entry fee was only $2 and goodies were presented to each canine competitor.

A craft table for the kiddos and a daily “Stall Savings” drawing were among the other features of the 2015 event. If exhibitors pre-entered before 10 pm on Thursday, 21st, their name was put into a hat. Each day of the horse show, a name was drawn and that exhibitor won $10 off their stall.
