This afternoon’s Amateur 3-Year-Old Stallions class at the 2013 APHA World Show marked an important milestone for Mark and Patty Voegele and trainer Kelley Stone. Voegele’s home-grown stallion, Intensions, broke the APHA record for the most consecutive wins by a halter horse stallion.

“I didn’t sleep all night because this win today was supposed to beat the record for the most World Championships for a Paint halter horse stallion,” Mark says. “They’ve never had a horse win as a weanling, yearling, 2-year-old, and 3-year-old.”
Intensions, aka “Rolly,” is a 2010 red roan overo stallion by My Intention [QH] and out of Barlinkislebeastar, a multiple World Champion producing mare. Patty explains that their lovable stallion was named after a character from the movie, 101 Dalmatians.
“The little, baby puppy goes to the TV and says, “Momma, momma, I’m hungry!’ She says, ‘I just fed you Rolly.’ That’s how Rolly got his name, because he wants to eat all the time.”
Mark Voegele confirms that this particular horse is one of the most docile stallions he has ever had the pleasure of working with. That’s a trait he hopes Rolly will pass on to his first foal crop in 2014.
“He just wanted to follow you around and be a puppy dog [as a baby],” Mark says.
Recently, Rolly took home a Championship title and Reserve Championship title at the National Halter Championship in Iowa. Since the very beginning of the stallion’s career, Mark has relied on the guidance of Kelley Stone for fitting and Tim Finkenbinder for presentation in Open division classes.
Now that the record has been broken, Mark and Patty have some big plans to celebrate.
“We’ve got two bottles of champagne, so we’re going to go have those and go to sleep!” Mark says.
