LUKES LIKE ART
(5/13/03 – 9/6/17)
Lucas was a fun horse. He was more fun than most humans. He loved to make new friends, and the network of people, horses, and dogs to whom he has shown love spans far and wide. He was a motivated and hard-working horse, but he also treasured his morning naps. In multiple barns, he somehow negotiated with his caretakers to change their cleaning schedules so he could nap longer.
He was always up for exploring or trying something new, but his favorite activities were trotting into the show pen, hand walking with his human, eating peppermints, and playing the tongue game. He was very smart. For his 10th birthday, he learned to count to 10 by pawing in the aisleway. A problem solver at heart, he taught himself to weave in order to amuse himself and relieve his equine ADD.
Emotional intelligence was one of his gifts, and his honest, easygoing personality was consistent. Lucas knew how to, and wanted to, cheer up anyone who was having a down day. His connection with his human, Becca, was unlike any other and was easily visible, even to strangers.
His willing heart and zest for life are unmatched. In the show arena, he turned heads and brought smiles to the judges’ faces. He holds many circuit championship titles, multiple Congress Top Ten awards, and a national Top Ten Year-End AQHA standing in Senior Green Hunter Under Saddle (in 2010, his first year shown).
He was “one of the good ones” and we imagine he trotted through the gates of Heaven on September 6th with Becca’s grandfather, Bobby, saying, “There’s your horse, Judge. There’s your horse.” He will be missed deeply by Becca and her family.
