Everyone at The Equine Chronicle would like to send our sincerest condolences to a member of our family who lost a beloved horse recently. Earlier this week, Kacie Scharf lost her 9-year-old AQHA gelding, A Movin Machine, following a freak accident while he was turned out in his pasture.
Kacie had been a team with the gelding by A Good Machine and out of Graceful Principles for only three years, under the guidance of trainer, Chad Evans. During that short time, they’d formed a strong partnership winning top titles at the All American Quarter Horse Congress and NSBA World Show.
We remember chatting with Kacie at the Congress last year when she and “Benny” won 14-18 Western Riding with a chart-topping score of a 239. That was the highest score of all Western Riding classes earned at the Congress that year, as well as since 2012. They were also named the Reserve Champions in Novice Youth 14-18 Trail. That was just months after the pair won Novice Youth Trail and came in Reserve in Novice Youth Western Riding at the NSBA World Championship Show and placed in the Top 5 in Western Riding at the AQHA World Show.
Here’s how Kacie described her beloved Benny during that Congress interview:
“Benny’s personality is very similar to a little boy,” she says. “Most of the time, he’s super sweet and wants to do what’s asked of him. However, he can also be a little mischievous at times and does things like untie himself, stick his tongue over the bit, and destroy his slinky.”- Kacie Scharf Click here to read more.
Kacie’s mother, Gayle, sent us a lovely message this morning. “Kacie, of course, is truly heartbroken, but it helps to know he was admired by others. He was such a great horse, and I really feel it was because of him that many special people were brought into our lives. She’s having a tough time, but is so thankful she had her Benny for the past three years.”
We would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to the Scharf family following this sudden loss.
