In Loving Memory of Call Me Sister, 2001-2023

Call Me Sister, by Paint Me Zippo and out of HF Skips Plaudette, was laid to rest on May 31, 2023.

The 2001 APHA Sorrel Tobiano Mare with the familiar “Y” brand, for Yarnelle Farms, was Paul and Marylyn Caliendo’s first Paint Horse, purchased through Scott Suggs and Shannon McCulloch.  After her purchase, the Simons family welcomed the Caliendos to the breed at the Copper Country POR in Tucson, and introduced them to other new people in the APHA industry, Marylyn explained in a 2014 cover story for The Equine Chronicle.

“Our hearts are broken. We lost Call Me Sister, a.k.a “Whoopie.” We owned her for 22 years,” Marylyn posted on June 1, 2023.  “Champion in the show pen, made WC babies. Loved being a mom, even though she was a trickster always wanting to foal out in pasture. A Champion in life. We say we “owned” her, but she actually owned us. Run free of pain baby girl.”

A review of Whoopie’s show records reveals a true Western Pleasure horse at heart who earned her ROMs and Superiors in Open, Amateur and Novice Amateur Western Pleasure, as well as a Reserve World Championship in Novice Amateur Western Pleasure for the Caliendo’s son, Cody, in 2006.

She continued her mark in the industry as a dam of champions, most recently as a producer of horses like the 2022 Breeders’ Trust Leading Earner, Call Me A Cowboy – a 2014 brown tobiano gelding by The Original Cowboy and out of Call Me Sister, nominated by Marylyn and subscribed by Simons Show Horses. Call Me A Cowboy was owned by Robert and Patricia Ross since 2017, and Call Me A Cowboy earned 939 points in 2022 and a payout of $7,841.72.
The Superior Trail and Pleasure producer will be missed by the entire Caliendo family and the Simons family.  The Caliendo’s daughter, Megan, wrote this on June 1st: “Said goodbye to an old friend and absolute legend yesterday. Rest in paradise Call Me Sister, thank you with my whole heart for giving everything you had to us and more 🙏 I’m going to miss you, and our morning walks ❤️ yet I know you totally charged that heavenly field. See ya later.”
