#10- Ever Wonder How Many Calories You Burn While Riding Your Horse?
This interesting study from Texas A&M sought to determine the amount of energy expended by equestrians. Researchers had 20 individuals complete three riding tests: a 45-minute walk-trot-canter, a Reining pattern, and a Cutting pattern while wearing a telemetric gas analyzer. They analyzed heart rate, respiration, ventilation, oxygen consumption, and carbon dioxide production. What do you think they discovered? Riding a horse for 45 minutes at a walk, trot, and canter can burn up to 200 calories! But, if you do something more physically demanding, like Cutting or Reining, you can burn up to seven calories per minute. Click here to read.

Number eight comes from our event coverage from the 2019 AQHA World Show. We had the opportunity to chat with March Ferguson, who showed her homebred filly, Frigidaire, at her first AQHA World Show to win Amateur Yearling Mares; Dan Fox, who led his beautiful, bay, Solair to win Amateur 2-Year-Old Geldings; and more. #6- $50,000 Raised For Carney Performance Horses Following Devastating Fire
On October 26th, a fire broke out at Carney Performance Horses in Rome, Georgia. Because the fire spread so quickly, the entire barn, apartment, and all 19 horses inside perished. The fact that this particular story is in the number one spot on our countdown for 2019 shows just how close-knit and supportive the horse industry is. After learning that Monte Ruden was involved in a horrible accident, resulting in surgery to stop internal bleeding and four additional surgeries to fix a broken femur in his right leg and to repair his intestines, prayers of support flowed in from across the country from friends, family, and strangers.
