For four consecutive years, the 2016 All American Quarter Horse Congress Queen, Amy Brown, has hosted a benefit horse show at the East Rowan Saddle Club in North Carolina. Last year, $8,800 was raised for charity!

This year, the show raised funds for NC4K, a pediatric cancer non profit that’s better known as Nellie’s Champions For Kids. Brown’s time spent as the 2016 Quarter Horse Congress Queen gave her the opportunity to see the impact that financial assistance and hospital support can have on families of children with cancer.

“Personally, I’ve witnessed Nellie’s work through the Congress Queen Contest and have fallen in love with the children she helps and the drive she has for this non-profit,” Brown says. “To date, over $2.5 million dollars has been raised to help meet the needs of families as they travel through a journey in their life they never imagined they would be on. It all began with one 16-year-old girl, who wanted to make an impact on the world! Because of one voice, many voices have been inspired, encouraged, and hundreds of families lives have become just a little easier, in spite of disease. For these families, every moment counts, and NC4K tries to make the most of all of them!”

Every year, at the Gold Ribbon Horse Show, over $5,000 in prizes and goodies are given away to lucky competitors. Items include custom spurs, saddles, bucket, horse sheets, tote bags, show clothing gift certificates, and subscriptions to The Equine Chronicle. Pamela Linville McMillan and her horse, Zippinstraitforreno, won a 2-year subscription to The Equine Chronicle at the event this year. “I love The Equine Chronicle, and we always love this horse show, because it is for a wonderful cause. And, of course, Amy Sue is amazing! We love her.”

“Without generous people lending a hand at the show and donating money or prizes, it would not be possible. I run the Gold Ribbon Show with 100% of the volunteers donating their time and sponsors that donate prizes to help make the show the best show possible. Even the horse show grounds donates the use of their facilities for the day.”

Because Brown has a boot in the two worlds of horse power, she asked 10 motorsports companies in North Carolina to match what the show raises this year. That will nearly double the final donation to NC4K! Brown’s goal for the 2018 event was to raise $10,000, so we will just have to wait and see if they reached it!
