Gold Division of APHA Breeders’ Futurity Announces Program Enhancements

Filed under: Club & Show News,Club and Show News |

PHJ release by: APHA.com

Since its inception, the APHA Breeders’ Futurity program has provided a slate of classes available exclusively to Breeders’ Trust offspring at the APHA World Show. The Gold division of the Breeders’ Futurity is open to any Breeders’ Trust-nominated foal, and the only additional eligibility criteria is that the foal’s dam is nominated to the Gold Division.

APHA is excited to announce several new modifications to the program in 2022 and beyond:

  • Classes will take place until the horse’s 5-year-old year. This adds two more years of showing opportunities in Gold Division classes. Mare nominations will start at $150 to add funds to the purses offered in those two additional years. The best time to nominate is still by February 15 of the foaling year.
  • Five new Open classes and four new Non-Pro classes will be offered starting in 2022. Performance classes will continue to take place at the APHA World Show. Halter classes will take place in the fall at APHA’s halter event.

New Open classes: Western Yearling Longe Line, Hunter Yearling Longe Line, 2-Year-Old Stallions, 2-Year-Old Mares, 2-Year-Old Geldings

New Non-Pro classes: Non-Pro 5-Year-Old & Under Hunt-Seat Equitation, Non-Pro 5-Year-Old & Under Showmanship, Non-Pro 5-Year-Old & Under Trail, Non-Pro 5-Year-Old & Under Western Horsemanship

  • Gold Breeders’ Futurity classes are now more affordable than ever with reduced entry fees. Class entries will now be $500. Payments will continue to be split over two payment deadlines, paid in the year the horse will be shown. Late fees have also been reduced.

Performance classes- April 15 – $175, June 1 – $325

Halter classes- July 15 – $175, September 1 – $325

“The Gold division of the Breeders’ Futurity saw some huge increases in 2021,” APHA Director of Advertising & Incentive Programs Matt Arias said. “About $190,000 was paid out between the World Show and the Lone Star Gathering. We had more mares nominated in 2021 than ever before. We are excited to add classes for non-pros, which will allow a new group to earn payouts in the program. These modifications will help the program continue to grow.”

The 2022 mare nomination forms will be available online later this month. The complete rules and program details will be available in January. Please contact Matt Arias by email or call (817) 222-6441 for more information.
