Today’s Junior Western Pleasure finals saw a few familiar faces in the winner’s circle. Winning the Congress Championship title aboard Rewind And Repeat was Gil Galyean for Susan and Gary Dempze. The Reserve Congress Champion was Kenny Lakins with Forever My Lady.
Third place was Shane Dowdy with Chasing A Dream. Fourth place was Katie Green with Hot Lopin Goodbar. Fifth place was Kristen Galyean with VS Flatline.
Anyone who witnessed Galyean’s win tonight could see that this win on this particular horse was very special.
“I’ve just loved him since the first time I saw him, when Brian Cox had him,” Galyean says. “I just love the way he lopes. He glides across the ground and has a beautiful top line and beautiful presence to him. He lopes how I truly believe a winning horse should lope. He was the best tonight that he’s been here.”
Just a few nights ago, Jenna Dempze placed Reserve in the Non Pro Western Pleasure Maturity with Rewind And Repeat. Later on in the show, Dempze will pilot her horse in Amateur Western Pleasure. Then, it’s on to the AQHA World Show.
“We were Reserve there last year, so hopefully we can move up a notch,” he says.
The partnership Galyean has with the Dempze family has been long enduring. We wondered; what’s the secret to their success?
“They are great people,” he says. “They understand there are ups and downs, and they are very supportive and always have a good attitude. We are very lucky to have them as clients.”
