American Quarter Horse Association members can now order DNA, HYPP and disease panel test kits online at www.aqha.com/genetictesting. Owners no longer need to mail in orders or wait on the phone.
They can simply go online 24/7 and order these test kits for their horses. Ordering online will also provide expedited service, as orders are typically processed the next business day.
Beginning with the 2014 breeding season, all stallions breeding 25 or more mares are required to have the five-panel disease test results on file, per Rule REG108.5 in the 2014 AQHA Official Handbook of Rules and Regulations. In 2015, all breeding stallions must be tested.
One of the biggest things that holds up a foal registration application is the need for the dam or sire to be DNA typed. If you have a stallion or mare that needs to be DNA typed before a foal can be registered, order the kit before the foal is born. Testing before the foal is born gives owners one less thing to check off their to-do list when registering a foal.
Ordering the kit is easy with AQHA’s new online system. AQHA encourages owners to take care of the testing now, so they won’t experience a delay when registering their foals. For more information on DNA, HYPP and disease panel test kits, visit www.aqha.com/genetictesting.
