Today, on the final day of the 2018 AQHA World Championship Show, the last set of World Champions were crowned. First, Ross Roark led Rumerz R Flyin Babe to win Weanling Fillies for the Headley family.

This filly is the first by their stallion, Rumerz, to win a Congress Championship and now a World Championship title. At the Congress, this filly won in the Open class and was Reserve with Sarah Headley in Amateur. Here at the World Show, Sarah was third in the Amateur division.

“She’s by Rumerz and out of Custom Made Babe,” Sarah says. “We showed her mother, and she was actually the first horse that we had with Don Griffey, who now stands our stallions. We showed her at the Big Money Futurity and she was third, and she was third at the Congress. Then, she became a momma, and she’s been doing a great job. The filly’s grandmother is out in the pasture as well.”

Sarah believes this filly is the perfect combination of her father’s conformation and her mother’s looks. “The plan is to put her in the show string, and our hope is that she will only get better with age. She’s so correct. I think she looks a lot like Rumerz, but her coloring is from her mother. Her confirmation is definitely from him.”

In order to come up with this filly’s name, the Headley family has a unique foal lottery system they use at the ranch. “We put all the foals’ breedings up on a dry erase board with their mothers’ and fathers’ names. My cousin, Ben, actually named her. We thought it would sound really cool over the loudspeaker at the World Show.”

The Reserve Champion in Weanling Fillies was Ted Turner with Secret Entention. Third was Jason Smith with Bittersweett. Fourth was Buddy Laney with FG Centerfold. Fifth was Clint Fullerton with Blessingz.

Ross Roark with Bigger Dreams

Ross Roark also led Bigger Dreams to win Weanling Colts for Josh Weakly. Josh purchased Bigger Dreams from Thomas and Mimsi Coon in August.

Josh admits that he’s not much of a colt guy, but he couldn’t refuse when trainer, Andy Staton, called and said there was a new horse he needed to purchase. “Andy went and looked at him, but he didn’t call right away. When he called, he said, ‘I bought this horse and you need to send Thomas a check.’ He said that this one was special. He’s got a lot to him. He’s big bodied and short backed with pretty color. He shows well. He’s a nice colt.”

This win brings Josh’s total World Championships earned this year up to five: Its Gameday in Amateur and Open Aged Geldings, Lu Scion in Amateur 2-Year-Old Geldings, and Bigger Dreams in Open and Amateur Weanling Colts. It would have been six, but his Congress Grand Champion Gelding, Lu Scion, just sold to Bob Cassata prior to his win in Open 2-Year-Old Geldings.

The Reserve Champion in Weanling Colts was Buddy Laney with FG Xxpectations. Third was Steve Ferguson with Fully Explosive. Fourth was Luke Castle with My Bravado. Fifth was Jason Smith with Justified Intentions.

Ross Roark with Romeiro

Ross was at the lead of Romeiro to win 2-Year-Old Stallions for Dan Fox. Just a few days ago, Katie Fox led the stallion to a win in the Amateur division. The Reserve Champion was Ted Turner with LWR Classic Chrome. Third was Dewey Smith with I’ve Got People. Fourth was Buddy Laney with FG Born Legacy. Fifth was Kathy Smallwood with Kennar.

Ross led Evinceble to win Yearling Stallions for Scott and Kelly Trahan. Just a few days ago, Scott Trahan led Evinceble to win the Amateur division. The Reserve Champion was Jason Smith with Trillions. Third was Luke Castle with DMM Double Oh Seven. Fourth was Steve Ferguson with I Got Cool Luck. Fifth was Ted Turner with Juz Sayin.

Ross with Romeiro

The winner of Aged Mares was Ross Roark with Bee Jewelled for Frank Berris. We had the opportunity to chat with Frank earlier in the week, when he was named the World Champion in Amateur Aged Mares.
