The final World Champions were crowned today at the 2017 AQHA World Championship Show. Remember, earlier in the week, when Amanda Wallinger-Rowan led Dimplez to win Amateur Weanling Fillies and her father, Steven Wallinger, placed third with Cocco Chanel? Well, today their horses were World and Reserve in Open with Christopher Arentsen and Ted Turner!
Chris Arentsen led Dimplez to win Weanling Fillies and Ted Turner led Cocco Chanel to a Reserve finish. Third place was Ted Turner with Fantasyz. Fourth was Tim Finkenbinder with Hr Tiaras Secret. Fifth was Jason Smith with Too Cool To Flirt.
We chatted with Amanda’s mother, Lorraine Wallinger, who bred Dimplez, a filly that’s by the family’s stallion, Acoolest Touchdown. “It was pretty nerve-wracking!” Lorraine says. “She reminds me of her father through the face and the rear end.”
“He also throws good backs,” says Amanda’s dad, Steven. “We’re pretty tickled!” Lorraine adds.

In Weanling Colts, Luke Castle led DMM Double Oh Seven to a win for new owner, Terry Bradshaw. This horse is a new purchase for Terry, who let us in on how the deal went down, just four days ago.
“Buddy Laney and I are really good friends,” Terry says. “He said, ‘Come with me. I hear there’s a good horse here.’ So, we went over to Diane Miller’s stalls, and got the horse out. It was really nice. I asked how much they wanted for him. Then, I got a call from Luke Castle, and he said he’d heard about the colt and thought it was really good. He thought we had a chance to win, and he wanted to show it.”
“I gave them my final offer. I was supposed to hear back, but my wife and I were going to work out. When I got back from working out, my phone was lighting up. Luke said he was ours!”
Terry likes this particular colt because of his N/H status and his overall attractive looks and conformation. “I don’t have anything like him. He’s really pretty. He’s not overly-cooked. In other words, he’s not a freaky ball of muscle, but he has all the cuts and is really good and square with a great neck set and head. His top line is really good. What I like about him is that he’s going to get so much better. Also, he’s N/H, and I needed a N/H stud.”
The Reserve Champion in the class was Jason Smith the Juz Sayin. Third was Buddy Laney with FG Totally Smoking. Fourth was Tom Robertson with Evinceble. Fifth was Ross Roark with Bad An Boujee.
In 2-Year-Old Stallions, Steve and Kathy Headley had a fantastic day winning both the World Championship and Reserve World Championship with Best Kept Secrete, led by Gene Parker, and Heartz On Fire, led by Ross Roark.
We chatted with Bob Eurez just a few days ago when his horse, Best Kept Secrete, won Amateur 2-Year-Old Stallions. Click here to read that story. Best Kept Secrete now has a new owner, the Headley family, who bred the horse that’s by their stallion, Heza Secret Agent. “He’s coming home!” Kathy says.
Not only did the Headleys win the World Championship title, they also won Reserve with a new stallion that was purchased earlier this year, Heartz On Fire. “Cash” is a full sibling to the Headley’s other stallion, Rumerz, by Secretz and out of Kids Keepin Cool.
“There are things you can see that are similar,” Kathy says. “With Rumerz, I’ve got to be honest, when we walked in, my jaw dropped. Cash is more the type of horse that when you start looking at him, you want to keep looking at him because he’s so pretty.”
Cash received his barn nickname from the Headley’s daughter, Sarah, who thought his registered name reminded her of the famous Johnny Cash song, “Ring Of Fire.” “We’ve had our eye on him since he was a baby,” Kathy says. “Also, he’s N/N, and we’re excited about that for our breeding program,” Sarah adds.
Rumerz’ first foal crop has already hit the ground, and he even had one foal that was shown here to a Reserve Championship, Fantasyz, owned by Josh Weakly. Both Best Kept Secrete and Heartz On Fire will have the chance to begin their breeding careers at Griffey Equine Center in 2018.
Third place was Dewey Smith with Obviously Preplanned. Fourth was Buddy Laney with FG Rising Star. Fifth was Tom Robertson with Kasino Kash.
Finally, in the Aged Mares class, the Headley family scored another win, this time with Alluring Intention, led by Ross Roark. The Reserve Champion was Jason Smith with PS Supreme Surprise. Third was Ted Turner with Lookin For Romance. Fourth was Tim Finkenbinder with Equities. Fifth was Steve Ferguson with Pass Da Pepper.
