EC Photo of the Day – Eddy the Unicorn

Eddy the Unicorn by Jeni Jo Photography

“Eddy is not just any old bay horse. He’s a unicorn with an invisible horn,” says Danielle Barker.
In October of 2017, she explains, her mom was taking a riding lesson with Wimpys Little Jay, lovingly called “Eddy,” a 2007 gelding who has been in the family for approximately 10-11 years.  Her mom’s lesson was during late morning, and Danielle was busy with school and couldn’t attend.
Then all chaos broke out, says Danielle.  “We got the call.  She had had a heart attack was being life flighted to the hospital. Turned out she’d required 15-18 minutes of CPR… a thousand things could have gone wrong.”
Danielle confesses, “She could have been in a hundred different horses, who very well could have panicked about the situation at hand. But this solid and steady bay gelding didn’t even bat an eye. He earned so many gold stars and cookies. When a horse in that high stress situation – People running – Yelling – Panic. – can remain a solid citizen, they just can’t be replaced.”
To this day, says Danielle, Eddy has remained the same solid citizen he has always been.  “And while mom no longer rides, I do.. and not only did he play a part of her being alive, he’s played a part in winning countless buckles, bronzes, and plaques. Eddy the Unicorn.”
