This is Holden Dettmer (age 10), with the Dettmer’s foal, Daytona (Hesa Special Hotrod x I Know Satin).
“My kids started reading to our foals when they were young so they could practice reading out loud with an audience that didn’t care if they messed up a word or stumbled through a page,” says Lauren Dettmer. “It turned into a great exercise for both my kids and the foals. It taught the kids to read out loud and gave the foals a chance to interact with people on their terms (fantastic desensitization!) It’s a tradition that we have kept throughout the years, even though now it’s more for the foals than the kids.”
