AQHA BREEDERS:
AQHA Publicity
Two important deadlines are fast approaching for stallion owners: American Quarter Horse Association stallion breeding reports and AQHA Incentive Fund stallion nomination forms must be postmarked on or before November 30.
Stallion Breeding Reports
According to the AQHA Official Handbook of Rules and Regulations, the owner, authorized agent or lessee of every American Quarter Horse stallion must file a written report – known as the stallion breeding report – that shows the names, registration numbers and dates of breeding exposure for all registered mares during the year.
The stallion breeding report form must be filled out and mailed to the AQHA office on or before November 30. Stallion owners also have the option of submitting the report online via AQHA Member Services.
Additionally, all stallions that bred mares in 2015 are required to have the five-panel disease test results on file, per Rule REG108.5 in the AQHA Official Handbook of Rules and Regulations. Disease panel test kits can be ordered online at www.aqha.com/genetictesting.
To submit online reports, visit www.aqha.com/sbr, and for questions concerning stallion breeding reports, contact sbr@aqha.org. AQHA customer service representatives will be available until midnight on November 30 to answer SBR questions.
Incentive Fund
More than $75 million has been paid out since the inception of the AQHA Incentive Fund. With this program, paybacks are made annually to stallion and foal nominators, as well as to the owners of competing horses for the points the horses earn in the show pen.
Feedback from stallion owners, foal nominators and exhibitors has driven changes to the Incentive Fund. To make the program more beneficial to all competitors, effective January 1, 2016, competition licenses will no longer be required and the point cap will be adjusted.
For a stallion’s offspring to be eligible, he must be enrolled by November 30 prior to each breeding season at a fee based on the number of mares on his previous year’s breeding report. This annual enrollment makes his foals, resulting from that breeding year, eligible to be nominated into the program.
Nominate your stallion and learn more about the program at www.aqha.com/incentivefund.

APHA Breeders:
PHJ press release by: Alannah Castro
It’s almost foaling season, and stallion owners know what that means—stallion breeding reports are needed to obtain breeder’s certificates. The postmark deadline for stallion breeding reports is November 30—reports are processed on a first-come, first-served basis, so the sooner you send in your reports, the earlier you’ll receive your pre-printed breeder’s certificates.
Skip the trip to the post office and file your stallion breeding reports online from the comfort of your home. Stallion breeding report forms are available online through aphaonline.org. The November 30 deadline still applies, and the report is filed with APHA once payment is made online. From aphaonline.org, select “Bronze” access in the right-hand toolbar to fill out a stallion breeding report, then follow the simple steps. Bronze-level access is included at no additional charge with your current APHA membership.

Before sending in your stallion breeding reports, double check the following:
- For Paint stallion owners, make sure all Paint, Quarter Horse or Thoroughbred mares are listed by registered name and number. Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred stallion owners need only list Paint mares exposed to your stallions.
- If the exposed mare is a Paint whose registration application has not been completed, be sure to identify the mare by her sire, dam and work order number.
- Include the appropriate “Method of Breeding” information on each mare. Pasture breedings can be reported as the first day the mare was put into the pasture and the day she was removed. Transported semen dates should be listed as the dates the mare was actually inseminated, not the shipping dates. Mare owners need to supply this information to the stallion owner.
- Embryo transfer, hand breeding and artificial insemination dates should be specifically listed by the first and last days of breeding.
- Include proper fees with the report. Member fees are calculated at $10 for the stallion breeding report and $5 for each mare listed. Non-member rates are $25 for the report, and $10 for each mare listed. (A membership can be purchased at the time the report is submitted to take advantage of the lower member-only filing rates.)
