AQHA Publicity
Displays for the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame Class of 2015 were unveiled July 21 in a special ceremony at the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum in Amarillo.
Four men were inducted in March during the 2015 AQHA Convention: Thomas Bradbury of Byers, Colorado; AQHA Past President Jim Helzer of Arlington, Texas; the late Stanley Johnston of Miller, South Dakota; and the late Ted Wells Jr. of Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Five horses were also inducted: 1989 mare Corona Chick, the 1959 stallion Coy’s Bonanza, the 1930 stallion Plaudit, the 1979 stallion Smart Little Lena and the 1962 Thoroughbred stallion Azure Te.
“We welcome nine more legends who have played a significant role in the history that has shaped our breed and AQHA, allowing us to become the largest breed registry in the world,” said Craig Huffhines, AQHA executive vice president. “They’ve been instrumental in showcasing the talents and emphasizing the important role the most popular and versatile horse plays in our lives today.”
On July 21 at the Hall of Fame, special display cases for the class of 2015 were unveiled and the inductees, their families and connections were invited to take the first look at the displays.
The special displays will remain up for a year at the Hall of Fame in Amarillo, then the artifacts will be moved to permanent display cases.
New Timeline Exhibit
As the list of Hall of Fame inductees has grown over the years, the space for incoming inductees has become smaller. After extensive research and customer surveys, the Hall of Fame developed a new design that allows ample space to showcase the history of the American Quarter Horse and legends in the equine industry. Museum visitors can walk through the new history timeline and get an intimate look at these legends. The design incorporates a large visual history in the background to show museum visitors the time period and what was happening in the world at the time. The display also includes biographies of each Hall of Fame inductee.
In addition to the new visual display, updated kiosks will be available soon. The kiosks will house biography information and video content on each inductee, to ensure that spectators have the opportunity to explore their interests beyond the visual display.
