Del Mar, CA – September 17, 2015- The long awaited Fall Classic Quarter Horse Show held at the lovely Del Mar Horse Park began with higher than normal temperatures and humidity. Thankfully, the customary coastal breezes returned as the show continued and made showing delightful. Clay MacLeod, show manager, provided coolers filled with water at every arena to keep exhibitors hydrated and happy.
Large classes and futurities were enjoyed at the Fall Classic show. Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Directors, Chris Hocutt-Senteney and Lori Pfaff, were excited to share that “Exhibitor numbers surpassed expectation with lots of points going to exhibitors in Amateur and Select Amateur classes. In addition, futurity classes attracted five or more entries in most classes.”
In the Trail arena, the numbers were up as well with 42 entries in Sr Trail. A combination of challenging obstacles including difficult wagon wheels, bridges, back-ups to gates, and serpentines gave riders and horses a workout for World Shows ahead. Course designer, Don Lehman, even put some unique twists into each pattern. ”I tried to give riders plenty of options,” explains Lehman. “I wanted to give them a course so they could decide how to showcase their talents.”
One of the highlights of the show was the Equine Equipment Savings drawing for a Toro lawn mower and leaf blower. Each circuit champion was given a raffle ticket with the winner taking home the Equine Equipment Savings prizes. Winning the Toro lawn mower was Candy Bava from Modesto, California and the Toro leaf blower was Marian Naumann from San Diego. Equine Equipment Savings is dedicated to helping active participants in the equine world save at their local dealerships on Toro, Exmark, Massey-Ferguson, Challenger and Farm Paint. Go to www.equinesavings.com for savings on farm equipment. There was also a drawing for a full page ad in the Pacific Coast Journal, donated by Pacific Coast Journal. The big winner was Jeanne Russell Shumway of Reno Nevada.
Kevin Dukes from Weatherford, Texas, a regular attendee at the Fall Classic show says, ”I absolutely love supporting horse shows through being an exhibitor as well as a sponsor, because for me, this is a passion, a great past time, and a privilege. I think CQHA has always done a great job in offering quality shows that are well-organized at first class facilities.”
Exhibitors also enjoyed a fun, relaxed welcome party with wine and appetizers on Wednesday and an “Amateurs and Appetizers” margarita party on Friday. All in all, the 2015 Fall Classic Quarter Horse show was a blast. Lots of points, the best of exhibitors and horses, plus a “get-a-way” Del Mar location all made for a memorable show. Thanks to all of our generous Fall Classic sponsors for making this show such a wonderful event.
