Dawn Baker/Onn Cloud Nine and Andy Cochran/Whatgosaround Win Equine Chronicle Masters

Tonight’s main event to cap off a full month of horse showing in Columbus, Ohio was The Equine Chronicle Congress Masters 2-Year-Old Event.

First, Dawn Baker rode Onn Cloud Nine for Beth Hartman to win the Hunter Under Saddle class. “Goose” is by Iron Enterprise and out of A Walk In The Sky. He actually came to the horse show with a different name; but, once his owners saw the Masters entries list, they realized there was another horse with a very similar name. “They wanted to change it so it was a little different, and so it’s Onn Cloud Nine.”

Goose was broke out at the baker ranch in late February, and it’s been smooth sailing since he first went under saddle. “It’s been very easy for him. There’s been no setbacks. From day one, when he loped off, I knew he was going to be a lot of fun. He’s strong and the even in both directions. He’s always happy and has his ears up. He likes his job.”

It’s a good thing that Goose is easygoing, because the Masters night atmosphere can certainly be intimidating for maiden 2-year-olds. “You never know what you’re going to get. I got him in the arena, he didn’t seem to be bothered by it. I didn’t get him too tired. He’s never given me a reason not to trust him, so we went with what we had and he was great.”

Goose won’t be headed to the World Show this year. He’s going back home to rest up for the Florida circuits in 2019 when he will begin his non-pro career.

Andy Cochran was in the saddle of Whatgosaround for Capital Quarter Horses, LLC. to take home a big check for $25,000. Andy and the pretty bay gelding received three firsts and one third place from the judges. He’s by VS Flatline and out of Whatscookngoodlookin.

“He was born and raised at Capital Quarter Horses. Actually, we didn’t have a lot of two-year-olds this year. It just so happened that we had he and his fun sister, who was also a Congress Champion in the 2-Year-Old Non pro with Hillary Roberts. You don’t see that much.”

Heading into the World Show, the CQH Team will be faced with the difficult task of choosing between the two Congress Champion earnings siblings.

“This one is a big, strong horse that looks older than he is. He has a lot of eye appeal and self carriage, just like his mother. He’s a big, strong two-year-old.”

“This is one of my first times to show in the Masters, so I didn’t know what to expect.  I took him from stall to show pen and he was great.”
