Congratulations to the Owens Family on the Purchase of Ridin On Chrome

Lila, Patton, and Kelsey

By Delores Kuhlwein

Kelsey and Ridin On Chrome have amassed a long list of AQHA and APHA titles.

There’s a new superstar in the Simons Show Horses barn as of this week, and his name is Ridin On Chrome!

The proud new owner is Laura Owens, whose daughter, Lila Owens, you have seen gracing the winner’s circle countless times on Beyond Expectation (AQHA) / Best Made Machine (APHA).

Though Laura has held the ultimately important job of being the show mom behind the scenes for some time, she recently expressed her desire to get back in the saddle, and in the show pen after a decade away.

Excited is an understatement for the Owens family, who welcomed “Patton” into their barn this week.

Ridin On Chrome, aka “Patton,” the 2019 AQHA/APHA bay gelding by When In Chrome ad out of Shez Dressed Hotter, seemed like a perfect fit for her, explains Lila, and “proved to be the one at the NSBA World Show.”  The Owens family purchased the winning gelding, who has been under the guidance of trainer Michael Colvin, from owners Kelsey and Linda McArthur.

“Our family and trainer, Sara Simons, have loved Patton ever since he was younger,” says Lila. “Actually, at APHA World Show this year, I mentioned to Sara that we needed a “Patton duplicate” for my Mom. She agreed, not knowing that he would be for sale a couple of months later. We jumped on the opportunity to add Patton to our family.”

Their goals are to bring Patton to the All American Quarter Horse Congress this year, where Lila can compete in Novice Amateur Hunter Under Saddle one last time. She explains, “My mom is going spend a lot of time with Patton this winter and hopefully start showing him next year in the HUS events. We hope we can make the McArthur Family proud!”

“I would like to wish them the very best with Patton,” says Kelsey McArthur.  “He was one of the finest horses I got to swing my leg over, and I am so fortunate for my time with him.  I will be their biggest supporter and cheerleader!”

The Owens family will also continue to show the double registered gelding in both the AQHA and APHA associations.

“We want to thank Kelsey and Linda McArthur and Michael Colvin for the opportunity to purchase Patton. We are more than excited to love and enjoy him the way they have over the years. We also want to thank Sara Simons, Mallory Bordic, and Lauren Martin for the time and effort they will devote to him to prepare him for our family in the future. Excited is an understatement!”

Editor’s note: We can’t wait to watch you show Patton!  Congratulations to everyone on this new chapter.
