Congratulations Appaloosa Youth World and Nationals Overall Champions!

FORT WORTH, TEXAS— The National Appaloosa Show, an annual event that first started in Lewiston, Idaho, in 1948, is the nation’s oldest single-breed championship event. The show has grown from its first show of 47 entries to over 2,000 entries this year.

There was no shortage of Appaloosa versatility exhibited as open and non-pros participated in over 160 classes during the first week in Fort Worth. The show kicked off with cattle events, and, over the course of the show, horses and exhibitors competed in everything from Ranch to Halter to Hunter Under Saddle classes, all vying for coveted National Championship titles.

June 24th marked the 4th Annual Stars & Stripes Summer Spectacular, a full-day show for Veterans and equestrians with disabilities. For the second year, clothing donated by ApHC members and friends were available for exhibitors. The support and appreciation felt by all made the experience one to remember. The ApHC would like to thank all the sponsors and donors who made this special event possible: Bruce & Beverly Wagner; The Brown Family; Lazy Faire Ranch; Patricia Rich; The Utecht Family; Jeri Erdman; Jodi McDougall; The Pierson Family; Central Glass & Mirror; Maestas Show Horses; Nemmers Performance Horses; Brent & Leslie Woolery & Megan Disselkoen; and Wayne Klindworth.

The World Championship Appaloosa Youth classes began on Monday, July 1st commencing a busy week ahead for 18 & under competitors. Youth exhibitors not only competed with their horses for World Championship titles, but also in the Team Tournament, AYA Speech Contest, Boot Scramble, Scavenger Hunt, and Wheelbarrow Race, and the Dennards Western Wear Egg Toss. The first ever AYA movie night was held on Friday, where youth and their families gathered to watch Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron and enjoy refreshments, sponsored by Erin Greathouse & 3G Performance Horses. It was a fun week for all!

The Champion of Champions competition was a highlight of the show, taking place prior to the Team Tournament Parade and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, July 6th. Equitation exhibitors from across disciplines competed for the coveted trophy, buckle, neck sash, roses, and (new this year) a $1,000 scholarship, all proudly sponsored by Deerfield Farm, LLC. This unique competition encourages individuality and creativity as riders perform a self-choreographed pattern to music of their choice.

Many exhibitors and spectators will gather again in Fort Worth to compete and take part in the athleticism, versatility and color of the historical Appaloosa breed for the World Championship Appaloosa Show to be held October 25 to November 2, 2019.

The Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHC) was established in 1938 with a mission of honoring the heritage and promoting the future of the Appaloosa horse.
