Clean Sweep For Undefeated Champion, Mytesly, Winning in Amateur Performance Halter Geldings With Johnna Dobbs

Johnna Dobbs was feeling the pressure this afternoon at the AQHA World Show. Up until this point, her family’s 6-year-old performance halter gelding, Mytesly, was on an undefeated streak winning at the AQHA Youth World, Select World, and Quarter Horse Congress this year.

“It was finally my turn, and a lot of pressure was on me, because everyone else had won!” Johnna says. “We started the year off with the Youth World, where my son, Cooper, won unanimously with him. Then, he won the Select World with my step-mother, Vickie Strickland. Then, we went to the Congress, and he won Open with Ted Turner, Youth with Cooper, and Select with Vickie.”

“We have to check the records, but this may be the first time a horse has done that: won four World titles and all three Congress titles in one year,” Johnna’s husband, Travis, adds.

Mytesly is a 2010 sorrel gelding by My Te Cool Mister and out of Last Pleazin Bymr, by Mr Conclusion. In addition to being the unanimous champion of the judges today, Johnna and Mytesly were also the Level 2 Champions.

What is it about this particular gelding that allows him to be so successful across all age divisions? “He has the look,” Johnna says. “He’s got the most beautiful head, and he’s correct. His back line is awesome for a performance horse. He has that look in the arena. It’s beautiful, and he’s an attention-getter.”

Mytesly not only has the look, but a superstar personality to match. He earned his performance points in Barrel Racing and Poles, which is a perfect fit for the Dobbs family. “We have a new horse to ride, and we’re so excited!” Johnna says. “When he went in today, he wasn’t sure if he was supposed to run down the alleyway, or be led by someone. He was waiting to see if there were any barrels out there!”dobbs1

Be sure to watch for Mytesly in youth and amateur Speed classes in 2017, in addition to his regular repertoire of Performance Halter. “We’re kind of an all-around family,” she says. “We cover all the bases between our Roping horses, Barrel horses, Western Pleasure, Hunt Seat, and Halter. I think Pleasure Driving is the only event that we don’t compete in.”

Assisting Johnna and Mytesly with preparations for today’s class was longtime trainer, Ted Turner, who lost a good-natured bet because of his client’s win…

“There was this bet… and I think it’s a history maker too! If I won today, Ted had to look at the camera and not the horse, in the win picture. He actually did it!”

Mytesly is hungry...
