Want some extra cash for college? The American Paint Horse Foundation scholarship fund promotes the educational and social growth of young horsemen and -women by awarding annual scholarships. This program is open to any APHA or AjPHA member who has been actively involved in either association’s programs. Last year, more than $50,000 was awarded to students pursuing higher education.

More than 50 academic scholarships are available through the APHF, and each pays out $1,000 per year (for four years) to its recipient.

Who are the students who receive foundation scholarships? They are the hardworking young horsemen and -women you see striving every day to be the best both in the horse show arena and in their academic pursuits. These students are supported by the generous donations given to the foundation program by APHA members in honor of loved ones or by regional Paint Horse clubs or zones.

To be considered for a scholarship, students must be a member of the AjPHA or APHA, must pass a college entrance examination, provide three letters of reference and submit an essay explaining their educational plans. Once they have been granted a scholarship, they must maintain a “B” or better grade-point average to be eligible for scholarship renewal. Only students in their senior year of high school or those who have graduated from high school less than one year ago are eligible to apply for an APHF scholarship.

Check out our list of frequently asked questions about APHF scholarships.

To apply for an APHF academic scholarship, the application and letters of reference must be post marked by March 1. Get started at apha.com/foundation.

Therapeutic riding instructor scholarships are available from the APHF, too—these are separate from the academic scholarships, but they’re also due March 1; click here to learn more about them.
