Chrome Cash, APHA’s groundbreaking incentive program, broke the $1 million payout benchmark in only its fourth year. The program makes Paint-exclusive sidepots available for participating APHA-registered horses at select performance horse competitions, traditional all-around shows and international events.
Participating international and traditional all-around events receive some direct funding from APHA. Performance horse Chrome Cash events, however, are fully self-funded from sponsors and participating horses’ entry fees. Those include sidepots offered at events hosted by the National Cutting Horse Association, National Reining Horse Association, National Reined Cow Horse Association, American Rope Horse Futurity Association and Stock Horse of Texas. All APHA-registered horses are invited and encouraged to participate in Chrome Cash, which helps add even more value to Paint Horse performers.
Furthermore, Paint winners captured major event titles against all-comers, too. Specifically, Lone Woolf won the 2023 NCHA Open Futurity; Pit Viper won the 2023 NCHA Futurity Amateur championship; and Gunna Be Painted won the NRHA Non-Pro Level 4 Futurity.
“Paints represent some of the top performers in every discipline and organization. Their success proves the talent, athleticism and versatility of the Paint Horse,” APHA CEO David Dellin said. “APHA’s Chrome Cash Incentive has been instrumental in showcasing our Paints and growing the breed. I appreciate the support of our affiliate partners, breeders, owners and exhibitors who participate in Chrome Cash and choose Paints.”
Total Chrome Cash payouts in 2023 were $1,008,700.50 and 3,374 entries were recorded; the breakdown by event follows. Learn more at apha.com/programs/chromecash.
